Cimpress launched its second Tech Challenge today, a global computer programming contest with a $10,000 grand prize. We’re inviting software developers worldwide to solve a problem inspired by the challenges our engineers face every day in our manufacturing plants.

Computer-integrated manufacturing involves a lot of optimization: laying out products most efficiently on paper and other materials, choosing which orders to manufacture at which times to maximize throughput, and more. The Tech Challenge has the same flavor, asking engineers to design a creative solution to an optimization problem. In this case, we’re asking:

Contestants must write a program that solves this style of puzzle. They get a higher score for using fewer squares and solving puzzles in less time. In the end, the top scorers will compete in a final round for the $10,000 grand prize, as well as up to ten “honorary mention” prizes of $1,000 each.

If you’re a software developer, we welcome you to participate! If your interest lie elsewhere, please spread the word about our Tech Challenge.
